Couples Counselling

I have provided couples counselling throughout the years as a psychologist.

I participated in training in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy in 2017. The goals of the model are to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect and affection; and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

Wanting to gain more knowledge on “normal” sexual development and sexual function, I completed the Intensive Sex Therapy Training Program at the University of Guelph, in 2021. Focusing upon theory, research, and clinical interventions, the program provided basic and intermediate assessing skills, theoretical models, information, and materials for sex therapy intervention with a variety of clients.

In the fall of 2022, I chose to further train on relationship issues with individuals and couples. This time, I selected the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy. This approach integrates Attachment Theory, Differentiation Theory and Neuroscience into a thorough system to manage even the most challenging couples’ dynamics. Offered in the form of therapy or coaching, the focus is on the growth and development of each partner individually, as well as the couple as a unit. This assumption is that long-term relationships naturally change over time as they progress through a series of stages.

In my interventions, I do not focus on pathology. Inquiries are aimed to be empathetic and carefully considered. I emphasize the role of development in relationships. My role is to teach you, in session, skills and techniques that you can use in everyday life in your relationships with others.
